I’m partial toward stories about ghosts. That’s why I write about them. That’s also why I tend to read a lot of books featuring ghost stories.
Recently, I had the pleasure of finishing Spirit Legacy by E.E. Holmes. The story follows Jess as she adjusts to her new life after her mother’s mysterious death, and she is sent to live with an aunt that she doesn’t know. When she decides to go away to college she meets some unusual characters. Some of them aren’t initially what they seem. That’s me trying to be vague, but I just told you it’s a ghost story. I’m sure you can put two and two together;)
Here’s what I loved about the story. It drops you into the excitement right from the first scene. The opening scene in the book is when Jess’s mother mysteriously dies. It’s engaging and pulls you into the story right away.
From that point, the book is super fascinating. You’re constantly wondering what will happen next, and how Jess’s life will turn out.
Jess is a very empathetic and engaging character. The book is a character study following a young woman dealing with the trauma of loss, realizing things about herself and her abilities, and deciding if she wants to accept them. Basically, it’s a maturation, coming-of-age story.
There is this little subplot of a love story in there too. It’s definitely not enough to call this a paranormal romance, but it is a good addition to the story.
If you love paranormal stories about ghosts, give this one a read. You won’t regret it. I can’t wait to see what else happens in the series.
